ROMAN Books is an independent publisher of literature and literary criticism with offices in Kolkata and London. The editorial office is now seeking consulting editors for the purpose of evaluating new submissions, mainly long fiction. The consulting editor will work as part of an editorial board headed by the Executive Editor. Candidates should have a Masters degree in English or Comparative Literature (MA final year students are also eligible). He/she must be an avid reader of contemporary fiction. A degree/diploma/experience in Editorial/Publishing is expected, but not essential.

Interested candidates are requested to send CVs to response@romanbooks.co.in with a covering e-mail. Qualified candidates can work from anywhere, but are required to attend the monthly editorial meeting held at the company’s Kolkata office. Payments are made on per evaluation basis.

Jaishree Sharma, the HR head, will be coming to Ju on the 13 April that is tomorrow at 4pm to meet the shortlisted candidates. If your name is on this list, be at the department before 4 tomorrow.

Pearson Coming to JU

At long last, we have finalised the dates for Pearson to come and interview the candidates from Edit Pub. They will be here over 5,6 and 7 April. On 5 April from 4 to 8pm we will have the final presentations by current students. This means about forty minutes per 'company', and 8-10 minutes per person.
On 6 April from 4pm we will start with a half-hour copy test for all the prospective interviewees. Then interviews from 5.30pm.
Ex-students of the course are welcome to present themselves for the copy test and interview. They should arrive on the 6th by 4pm.
If there is any overflow of interviews, we will continue from 4pm on 7th April.
All events in the AV Room of the English Department, JU.
To sum up:
5 April 4-8pm Project presentations by current students. Ex students need not come for this but can sit in and observe if they wish to do so.
6 April 4-4.30pm copytest
4.30-8pm interviews
7 April 4-6pm interviews.

Job Openings: More Pearson

Pearson require two more commissioning editors in the fields of business and economics. Detailed knowledge of these subjects is not needed: the candidates must have good language skills and sound editorial sense. The rest can be learned on the job. If there are enough candidates to justify the trip, Pearson will send someone to Cal to interview you, otherwise you'll have to go to Delhi to be interviewed. Travel expenses will be provided.

These are full time positions with salaries, not stipends. The actual amount will depend on the candidate's qualifications and skills.
